Right of Petition

What is a Right of Petition?

The Political Constitution in its article 23 defines it as follows: "Everyone has the right to submit respectful petitions to the authorities for general or particular interest and to obtain prompt resolution".

What is its purpose?

It is aimed at bringing citizens and the State closer together. It offers people a suitable instrument to ask the State for information or for the purpose of a timely pronouncement by a state body. It has been said that it is “a key that opens borders.”

How is it drawn up?

It must be written in restrained terms, but this does not prevent it from being drafted in severe, critical, emphatic and vehement terms. In other words, it should not overstep the limits of civic moderation.

What should it include?

Date, authority addressed, names and surnames of the petitioner, reasons for the request, list of the evidence, signature and address of the patient.

How long does it take to receive a response from the authority?

  • To issue copies of documents: 10 business days
  • To issue reports: 10 business days
  • Complaints and claims: 15 business days
  • Consultations about processes in your name: 30 business days
